The D.
Maria II National Theatre will take to the stage on the 25th January to Sunday
at 4p.m., the play "Cyrano de Bergerac" the french dramaturge Edmond
Rostand. This play will have translation in Portuguese Sign language.

This
Theatre received an Honorable Mention in the Prize Acesso 2014. This award, the
Accesso Cultura intended 'to distinguish, disseminate and promote entities and
projects distinguished by the development of model policies and good practice
in promoting the improvement of access to cultural spaces and cultural offer in
Portugal.

Synopsis:
"A
passionate poet. An insightful playwright. A master swordsman. A brave soldier.
A great philosopher. A deep student of Physics, Mathematics and Astronomy.
Cyrano de Bergerac has unusual qualities, but hidden by the physical aspect,
where the topping nose is source of frustration. In seventeenth-century France,
Cyrano suffers intensely loving her cousin, Roxanne, young, beautiful,
emotional, whose ideal man the beauty and spirit. To meet Christian, Roxanne falls
in love with him, but this is shy and can not maintain a normal relationship
with a woman. It is then that Cyrano helps Christian, writing her long and
beautiful love letters that will make even greater Roxanne's passion for
Christian.
This is a
heroic comedy that exalts noble feelings like love and renunciation capacity.
Written in 1897 by Edmond Rostand, based on Cyrano de Bergerac life, French
writer, this piece is considered the last great myth of the French romantic
theater. The path opened by Ruy Blas, Victor Hugo, and The Three Musketeers by
Alexandre Dumas, Rostand created with Cyrano de Bergerac one piece of drama,
written in form of a poem. ".
The cast of the play includes the participation of Diogo
Infante, Virgílio Castelo, Sara Carinhas, João Jesus, João Grosso, José Neves,
Lúcia Maria, Manuel Coelho, Maria Amélia Matta, Paula Mora, Alberto Villar,
Bernardo Chatillon, Celestino Silva, Frederico Coutinho, Joana Cotrim, Jorge
Albuquerque, Lita Pedreira, Luis Geraldo, Marco Paiva, Nídia Roque, Rita
Figueiredo, Simon Frankel e Bernardo Souto, José Sotero

Notes: the small stage-curtain panels in the 1st act, contain decorative elements
inspired by the Santa Comba Chapel,
Telões / Baião. Some scenographic screens of the 1st, 2nd and 3rd acts contain
references to John Constable painting (1776-1837) and Claude Lorrain
(1600-1682). The screens with clouds of the 4th act reproduce autumn sky
magnificent fragments in Idanha-a-Velha and Monsanto / Idanha-a-Nova.”
